Although the differences decrease when you are playing games (due to the reduced motion resolution of the current panels), in the less frantic moments the native 4K mode is much cleaner.Īside from the native 4K image, an additional pass is also performed with 4×8 EQAA, an AMD proprietary anti-aliasing solution that aims to improve on traditional MSAA without incurring the same memory consumption. The checkerboarding solution is not bad, but the motion blur effect is not particularly attractive or refined (which is not surprising, considering the very high level of performance), with a slightly more blurred presentation. A Sony statement pointed to the use of a dynamic resolution framebuffer, but in our tests we have not seen anything other than the full rendering with its 8.3 million pixels. By turning off the effect, however, the game is displayed at native 4K. When motion blur is on, the presentation is rendered at 2160p with checkerboard. The funny thing is that Omega Collection includes two 4K modes. In fact, the latter – a collaboration between Sony XDev, Clever Beans and EPOS Game Studios – is the best 4K and 60FPS title available on PlayStation 4 Pro. Wasn’t Sony’s new console supposed to be a PlayStation built for the 4K generation? If so, why do so few games come close to the 1800p / 2160p set by Sony? And how is it possible for a title like Prey to go on the market without any kind of addition to Pro? But of course, then you try games like Horizon: Zero Dawn or WipEout: Omega Collection and you regain your faith. Although there is no doubt that PlayStation 4 Pro offers a substantial improvement over the original console in many games, we have some reservations with the Sony machine. It does not matter if you have the console connected to a 4K TV or if you continue playing 1080p: the experience more than delivers.Īnd the latter is important. Not sure what is or isn’t allowed to be discussed here, but i’ve seen VR working (sort of) with RPS3, and read a few forum posts suggesting it might work with HD-Fury (not specifically, but i saw HD-Fury amongst a list of 3D compatible games and that helps with VR in RPS3 or somesuch). ![]()
